Surface Tension
05–20–24
Thesis book for the MFA at Yale, with selected work from 2021-2024. In the art of glassblowing, the material undergoes a transformative process akin to its own collapse under heat, where surface tension operates as an imperceptible force. To prevent breakage, constant rotation of the rod is essential, alongside careful removal from the heat source and gradual reheating when reintroduced to the flames. Often, imperceptible cracks manifest during the creation process, and nothing is certain until the final annealing solidifies its form.

It’s a similar process to design,
a balancing act that requires attention to all factors woven into the context.

This book encapsulates several tangents of my work over the past three years, comprising processes, fragmented moments, and semantic noises... These elements construct malleable meanings as they are situated in different contexts, only solidifying upon the perception of a viewer.

Greave

A typeface designed with glass and named after the piece of armor that protects the shin. The process of putting it on shares similarities with the making of these lettered beads.
